Is your school willing to employ you for a year and train you to obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)?
To be considered for the School Direct (Salaried) Programme with the 2Schools Consortium, trainees must have a degree at 2.2 or above, must hold a GCSE grade C or above or the equivalent in Maths, English, and Science and must have at least three years work experience. This experience does not have to be from an educational setting. Please refer to our person specification for short listing and course criteria.
In addition, anyone applying for an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course will be required to have passed the numeracy and literacy skills tests before starting the course.
Candidates are strongly recommended to take their skills tests before attending the interview.
Skills test passes for applicants to ITT courses remain valid for 3 years from the date of the test you passed. You must start an ITT course within this period. If you are applying for a course that starts beyond the period of validity, you will need to re-take the skills tests.

Applicants are shortlisted according to a scoring system which is reviewed annually and is aligned with our advertised person specification.
Selection and Recruitment Process
Shortlisted candidates are invited to attend an interview and are expected to have attempted the professional numeracy and literacy skills tests by this date- or within a month of interview (if arranged with the provider prior to attendance). The annually set recruitment methodology affects the timeline for tests.
Shortlisted candidates are invited to the lead school to:
- Check certificates and documents. It is essential that correct documentation is produced at the interview or within a month of interview if certified copies have to be obtained
- Attend a 45 minutes interview. The interview panel will consist of the Programme Leader and one or more Head Teachers, SLT members from the partnership schools, Link tutors or Programme Administrator
- Take a literacy (writing a balanced argument on a topic) and a maths test (NC level 6). This could be arranged for a different day.
Successful applicants will be required to teach a half hour session (literacy or maths) observed by a 2Schools Link Tutor and a member of the school’s SLT
Summative assessment by a class teacher who has worked with the candidate.
Successful applicants are then offered a place on the course subject to:
- Employment/recruitment terms and conditions including:
- Satisfactory DBS and Fitness to Teach check
- Two references that meet safer recruitment requirements
Candidate is the offered a place on the programme.
Observations made by class teachers and the Programme Leaders, applications, interviews, subject audits, and trainees self-audit of prior experience, all inform the Initial Needs Analysis and development of a training plan and will impact training needs and costs of training once the candidate is registered on the course.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS FOR SCHOOLS
- The school must employ the SDS trainee on a minimum of point 1 of the Unqualified Teacher Scale.
- The school must release the trainee to attend the compulsory or all training package and will incur the following costs (£3,000 or £3,800)

The provider is ultimately accountable for the quality of the trainee teachers and Qualified Teachers who train through their programme and therefore responsible for all decisions made with regards to training needs of trainee teachers.
