1. WHAT IS THE STUDENT ASSOCIATES SCHEME? The Student Associates Scheme (SAS) is a TDA funded programme, which has two main aims:
The scheme is open to students registered on relevant HND, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, subject to certain conditions. Students receive some training and gain 15 days experience in a primary or secondary school. Those taking part receive a bursary of £40 a day for each day they spend on school placement and schools receive funding for supporting the students. For more information from the TDA website click here 2. WHO CAN APPLY FOR A PLACE ON THE SCHEME? Students who are registered, full or part time, on a programme of study leading to an HND, a foundation degree, undergraduate degree or a postgraduate award, including masters or doctorates, may be recruited to the scheme. Priority is given to students who are studying mathematics, physics, chemistry, other sciences, modern languages, ICT, RE, music and DT; or for primary, those from groups under-represented in teaching. Students who already have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or who are, or have been following a programme leading to QTS, or who have trained as teachers abroad, are not eligible. Those who have previously taken part in the scheme (prior to September 2006) are entitled to apply if they meet the above requirements. For a full person spec please click here 3. WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE STUDENT ASSOCIATES SCHEME? Students receive approximately 15 hours of training, which includes an introduction to the National Curriculum, behaviour management, planning lessons and promoting Higher Education. This is followed by 15 days in a primary or secondary school during which students will support teachers and young people, and promote their subject and Higher Education in general. Students receive a bursary of £40 for each day they are on school placement. 4. HOW DO I APPLY? Your application will be welcomed at any time, and you will be offered an interview providing you meet the essential requirements. Our training, interview and placement dates are organised to fit in with school calendars and commitments so that you receive the best possible experience during your time in our schools. Please note that secondary applications should be sent to Willowfield School, and primary applications may be sent to either Oakthorpe or Henry Maynard |
