Applying for the GTP is exciting but does not need to be daunting as long as you remember the "3 Ps"; Preparation, Preparation, Preparation!

The Application

The application that you submit will most likely be the very first impression we make of you. It is vital that you make it a good one.

We select candidates for our two separate main schools and the local authority areas they are based in. You must make it clear which local authority you wish to apply to. You cannot apply to both!

Once the application portal on the TDA website is open for applications, carefully read through our person specification before completing your application. Important clues as to the type of candidate we are looking for are contained within the job description and the person specification. We shortlist according to the person specification.

We do not accept CVs.

Proofread! It is very disconcerting to receive an application that has typing, spelling and/or grammar mistakes. If necessary have someone else proofread it for you. Our schools have high expectations of the pupils and staff; trainee teachers are no exception.

Be sure to answer all questions on the form.

Ensure that the information you provide is accurate, clearly organised and accessible. Please note that you may be asked for evidence to support your statements.

Note the deadline date for submission. We do NOT accept late applications.

Please ensure that your contact email address is professionally appropriate and avoid, where possible, addresses such as "iluvchocolate@myisp.com"! If necessary, create a temporary email through one of the web-based sites.

The supporting statement is your opportunity to "demonstrate your understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with the realities of teacher training, as well as your enthusiasm for using your creative and intellectual skills in the classroom." – TDA

Consider the points listed in the job description/person specification and respond accordingly. These are what we make our decisions from.

Proofread as mentioned above. We are looking for candidates with good levels of written English, spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes must be corrected. Your application may be rejected outright otherwise, especially if the errors are basic mistakes.

We hope the information on this website has been helpful. If you would like to find out more or have questions that have not been answered, please contact us by post, phone, fax or email.
